Ultrasound Treatment

Ultrasound Treatment

What is Ultrasound treatment?

Ultrasound treatment can be used to treat knee pain, ankle pain, leg pain etc.  It assists with healing by stimulating blood flow to the local area by using very high frequency sound waves which are not detectable to the ear. It’s a method that’s been used by physiotherapists since the 1940s and can help with the following conditions:

  • Chronic and acute inflammation
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Swollen joints
  • Scar tissue
  • Knee pain, ankle pain, leg pain, etc

The intensity of the ultrasound waves are adjusted depending on what outcome the patient is looking for. To break down scar tissue, a higher intensity is used and the treatment may take longer.

What does it feel like?

Ultrasound treatment doesn’t last longer than a few minutes and the patient shouldn’t feel any discomfort. First, a gel is applied to the skin over the target area. The gel allows ultrasound waves to transmit to the tissue and also helps the therapist move the ultrasound probe smoothly and steadily around the target area.

Who can benefit from it?

People suffering from painful and inflammatory conditions of the joints and soft tissues such as tendonitis, bursitis, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, sprains and strains.
