Reasons for hip & lower back injuries

Are you frustrated with ongoing hip or back pain that is just refusing to shift?

Have you tried lots of different ways to get rid of this hip or back pain? Have you taken advice from lots of people?

Has your GP advised pain killers? Did Surgeon suggest an operation? Are you confused as to what could have caused this pain or injury in the first instance?

There are a variety of common reasons for hip pain and lower back pain which we treat at The Foot and Leg Clinic.

It should be known that hip and lower back injuries often relate to poor alignment of the foot, hip or both.

Poor foot alignment results in a change in the alignment of the knee and hip, therefore, resulting in a change in muscle pattern around these joints. This change in muscle pattern can cause injury due to the imbalance in joint and muscle load. It is important to address the alignment abnormalities by way of an accurate biomechanical assessment.

You do not need to suffer like this!

Treatments for Hip & Lower Back Injuries

The Foot and Leg Clinic carry out an accurate biomechanical assessment and prescribe a strength and conditioning programme to address the muscle imbalance. It is sometimes the case that foot orthotics and/or foot mobilisation therapy are also required to restore muscle and joint equilibrium in the leg. By improving muscle and joint function we can work to reduce tissue stress and aid healing.

We would suggest that the first step when treating a hip or knee injury would be to consult with our specialist biomechanical clinician or the physiotherapist.

With regards to a hip and knee injury, before booking your appointment, we would prefer you call to discuss with us first.

Once we have gained an understanding of the nature of the injury we will be better able to advise whether you are best to book with physiotherapy or a biomechanical assessment.

The biomechanical assessment will paint a clearer picture as to why the particular tissue is over loaded, thus failing to heal or predisposed to injury. The physiotherapist will better qualified to diagnose the injury and prescribe a strength and conditioning program.

The clinician will be able to advise the type of treatment required at the assessment appointment, this may include a strengthening program or perhaps more vigorous treatments such as shockwave therapy. If the leg is poorly aligned then it may be that foot orthotics are required to restore joint and muscle equilibrium.

The Foot and Leg Clinic are excited to be able to offer diagnostic ultrasound, provided by a sports doctor, in-house, for help in diagnosing leg injuries. A consultation with a surgeon may be required if all conservative treatment fails to fully heal the tissue.

Our experienced physiotherapists can help diagnose and devise a treatment plan for you.  You may also benefit from KCR to realign the entire body.  Remember however that we recommend strengthening in-line with KCR even though our patients are so delighted with their KCR results that they can sometimes forget to strengthen!
