Experienced Sports Massage Therapy Clinic

Massage and Sports Massage Therapy can be a great treatment for pain management and relief. It is possible to avoid pain meds and instead look after your body with regular manual therapy techniques, targeted to treat your specific ailments. Clinical massage therapy (or medical massage therapy) can include full body massage therapy or target more local areas of the body such as foot massage therapy.

We also provide a range of other manual therapies within your appointment, adapted to suit your needs. Acupuncture, needling, taping, cupping, trigger point release, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage massage. Manual and massage therapies can not only aid recovery from injury but have been found to offer many other health benefits, for example anxiety and stress management.

The therapists at the clinic work as a team and you will often find the massage therapy treatment plan has been recommended by the physiotherapist or biomechanical clinician.

We also provide lymphatic drainage massage. Lymphatic drainage massage helps to restore the lymphatic system via gentle pressure massage. The therapist is trained in this specific clinical massage therapy. Lymphatic drainage massage is helpful to carry waste products away from the swollen tissue and back to the heart.

Traditional acupuncture works on an energy lines believed to flow through the body, called the meridian lines. These small needles work to:

  1. Help stimulate the healing process around where the needles are placed through improved circulation.
  2. Help to reduce pain around the area in which they are placed.

Trigger point release is a form of manual therapy and could be described as remedial massage therapy. A trigger point can be thought of as areas of tight muscle fibre within a muscle. Usually with over load on the muscle which could result from over training, poor warm up technique, or poor body alignment.

Trigger point release is the application of pressure for a length of time enough to release tension in the nodule. This trigger point release treatment can be performed in conjunction with remedial massage therapy and a stretching program prescribed by your therapist.

We want good healthy working lymphatic and blood flow systems because these systems closely affect the working function of our muscles and joints. Slow recovery rate or low energy levels can result from long standing poor soft tissue function. Cupping, along with many of the other manual therapies mentioned on this page, can help to improve function in these aforementioned body systems. You may have seen many of the Olympic Athletes with large circular marks on their skin? This is from cupping. Cupping involves placing cupping glasses over acupuncture points on the skin, usually over the problematic muscle group. Heat or air is used to create suction between the cup and your skin and is left on your body for a few minute. Why not try it?

‘Myo’ means muscle and ‘fascia’ means soft tissue. So, myofascia can be used to describe the soft tissue surrounding separating muscle. We can think of myofascia as scaffolding for muscles, keeping them separate or together when needed for movement (conscious or unconscious).

Myofascial Techniques are plentiful. It it the gently release of tensions, tightness and pain throughout your myofascial tissue. Release of the myofascia tension should enhance function of the surrounding joints or muscles.

We provide various myofascial techniques incorporated into other manual therapies, Kinetic Chain Release (KCR) being one.

Taping is the application of tape around an injured tissue, usually applied in presence of an injury and used to offload tissue to reduce pain and improve joint stability. Our physiotherapists and sports therapists carry out this taping treatment, usually as an adjunct to your usual rehab or manual therapy appointment. As we work regularly with professional athletes, we often tape injured joints to keep the athlete going through an important game or event.

Our Massage Therapy services

Manual therapy and massage therapy is perfect for anyone who is suffering from aches and tension in the body, whether you are recreational or professional sports person, or are suffering aches and pains just from daily life.

Remedial massage and sports massage therapy can ease body tensions and assist with correcting your posture. Unlike the simplified massage which is aimed solely at relaxation, your remedial massage therapist will work with you on a program to target your individual pain, utilising various massage techniques to achieve the best outcome. The program may be revised and adjusted as you progress.

Remedial massage can also help with a range of other ailments such as insomnia; stress, high blood pressure, depression and anxiety.

Studies show it can also increase mental focus, improve skin tone by stimulating the blood flow and boost the immune system.

We have full body massage therapy appointments and would recommend at least 1 hour for this appointment. The therapist will take a full clinical history from you to help understand what is causing any injuries or aches and pains you may have. Full body massage is also suited to those not experiencing pain but simply wish to reap the benefits of remedial massage therapy.

Foot and lower limb massage is available and we would recommend 30 mins for this appointment. Reflexology is a wonderful treatment method for relaxing the full body. Foot Massage Therapy at our clinic is different from foot mobilisations therapy technique that we provide although foot massage therapy and foot mobilisation therapies are a great day compliment to one another and our patients often book both appointments.

A medical massage could include remedial massage therapy, sports massage therapy, clinical massage, lymphatic drainage massage, full body massage and foot massage. All of the aforementioned massage therapy treatments are performed by our clinically trained staff to work towards pain relief releasing anxiety or as part of your prescribed rehab program.
