Physiotherapy treatments & services for rugby players

Dislocations, such as of the shoulder, are common for rugby players. Your pitch side physio may have helped treat this however damage within the joint may have occurred at the point of the dislocation.

It’s possible your physio will refer you to our doctor for an ultrasound and injection therapy. Heavy forces sustained during rugby could result in other injuries such as knee strains, ankle sprains, hamstring strains, neck injuries or possibly hand fractures. These are all areas our specialist sports physiotherapists can help with.

How our sports physiotherapists can help treat rugby injuries

Your physiotherapist will carry out an assessment and devise an effective treatment plan. A good physiotherapist should be able to pick up on injuries that could be more problematic and require imaging, either via ultrasound and carried out by our doctor, or the physio will refer you directly to the private hospital for an MRI scan.

We have referral rights and therefore able to “direct refer”, which means the patient pays the hospital for the scan without needing to pay consultation fees (which would otherwise be the case).

For all other acute injuries, the physiotherapist will be able carry out manual therapy and devise a good home exercise plan for you to follow. They will review at appropriate intervals to take you through the rehabilitation program to recovery.

Most tendon and ligament injuries can be treated by our physiotherapists and if not, we refer for imaging for a clearer diagnosis and understanding of your injury. We also have a range of treatments that can enhance healing, such as shockwave, laser, cryotherapy and injections.

No matter your injury or condition, our team can help diagnose and treat it. Contact us to book an appointment.
