What does a podiatrist / chiropodist do?

A chiropodist or also termed podiatrist is a degree trained professional that specialises in treating abnormalities of the foot.

The Body, Foot and Leg Clinic podiatrists are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) meaning they have undertaken and passed a full-time degree and met with stringent entrance criteria.

Our podiatrist/chiropodist is a degree trained professional and therefore qualified to provide treatment of an array of foot skin and toe nail conditions, such as the common verruca, ingrown toe nail and infections.

The Foot and Leg Clinic have the facilities to treat many different foot problems, however many of our patients attend simply because they don’t like the appearance of their own feet. We’re happy to help clear away any hard skin and trim their toe nails making for a more cosmetically appealing foot!

During your initial consultation your podiatrist will discuss your medical history, your podiatric concern and your expectations of treatment. The podiatrist will thoroughly assess your feet assessing any risks providing professional advice for your feet.

Routine treatment will be provided by the podiatrist at the initial assessment and if necessary refer on to an appropriate specialist if required.  If you are currently taking any medication please bring a list along, it may be helpful to bring a repeat prescription if you are on regular medication! To ensure our podiatrists can properly examine your feet and nails please remove all nail polish.

After your initial assessment your podiatrist may have recommended you return for a routine appointment. A review appointment may consist of nail cutting, callous reduction (hard skin removal), corn removal, verruca treatment and ingrown toenail care.

  • Please be aware our podiatrists will often be using sharp instruments.
  • Please ensure to remove any nail polish before your appointment so our podiatrists can assess your toenails.
  • Our podiatrists will advise you on how regularly to attend our clinic to keep your feet in tip top shape.

Your routine appointment will leave you walking on air!
