Sports orthotics & custom insoles for athletes
At the Body, Foot & Leg Clinic, we have designed and produced custom foot orthotics for athletes across Scotland and the UK for many years.
Custom orthotics work to help improve your gait and overall balance of your body, which may have been contributing to pain in your feet, ankles, knees, hips or upper body.
The pressures different sports can apply to different areas of your body means that it’s important that your custom insoles are designed specifically for you – off the shelf solutions won’t be as effective for athletes. Whether you are running, hiking, cycling, playing football, basketball or rugby, we can design custom foot orthotics to help you.

Our custom foot orthotics are assessed and created at our clinic in Glasgow. When you contact us we will advise you on the correct service to choose and how much it will cost before you book.
What are custom foot orthotics for athletes?
Custom foot orthotics are specially designed insoles to insert in your sports footwear to help adjust and improve any misalignment of your body that may be causing pain or discomfort.
While obvious impact injuries such as an ankle sprain can be easily diagnosed, more subtle pains and discomforts from misalignment can be more difficult to diagnose.
For example, a pain in your hip when you walk may not actually be down to an injury to your hip, but to a slight misalignment in your gait.
By identifying the cause of your condition, our clinicians can design custom foot orthotics for all kinds of athletes, that will help readjust your gait and a relieve your pain.
Treatment
Often patients come to us having tried unsuccessful treatments prescribed by GPs or other consultants. Our clinic offers a full range of service for athletes, so we can advice on the best treatment – in cases where custom insoles are appropriate we will design and produce insoles specifically for you.
How we design the perfect orthotics for athletes
By understanding how your body works and where the cause of your pain or discomfort is, we can design orthotic insoles that are perfect for your condition.
Foot orthotics can relieve pain and help improve performance
The value and impact of foot orthotics for athletes is often overlooked.
No matter your sport or activity, and regardless of whether you compete at a professional level, or just to keep fit and healthy, most sports can have a high level of impact and stress on different joints and muscles. Even a slight misalignment of your gait can cause pain elsewhere in your body.
Even a minor pain or discomfort can affect your performance, and if it’s a long term issue you’ve probably learned to put it to the back of your mind. But what if that minor discomfort could be relieved by simply replacing the standard insole in your footwear with a custom insert? That’s a simple thing that could make a huge difference to your performance.
