Types of verrucas & warts
A verruca is another term for a wart, which is a small, non-cancerous growth on the skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Warts can occur on various parts of the body, and they come in different types, including common warts, plantar warts, flat warts, and genital warts.
Here are some key points about verrucas (warts):
- Common Warts – these warts are typically found on the hands and fingers. They have a rough, raised surface.
- Plantar Warts – found on the soles of the feet, plantar warts can be painful and may have a black center due to small blood vessels.
- Flat Warts – smoother and smaller than common warts, flat warts often appear on the face, legs, or other parts of the body.
- Genital Warts – genital warts appear on or around the genital and anal areas and are considered a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

- Cryotherapy can be used to freeze the wart using liquid nitrogen.
- Electrosurgery can be used to remove the warts using an electrical current.
