Foot and Ankle Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Shah is our resident consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon who will carry out assessments of the lower leg, foot and ankle to provide diagnosis. We also have an x-ray service within the clinic which most often completes Mr Shah’s assessments.

Some patients will require surgery to repair the injures structures whilst for others injection therapy is an excellent treatment tool. The advantage of having a foot and ankle consultant perform the injection therapies at the clinic is that the patient is safe in the hands of a surgeon with significant comprehension of foot and ankle anatomy and function – making for a more accurate clinical outcome.

Injection Therapy

Injection therapy is the injection of a medicine into the affected tissue such as tendons and ligaments to promote healing and reduce pain. Injection therapy can be used to supplement physiotherapy or orthotic therapy.  There are various injection products utilised throughout Europe for example, corticosteroid Injection (steroid) can be used to reduce inflammation within a tissue thus reduce pain.  Hyaluronic Acid can be used to reduce friction and provide nutrients to the joint.

Corticosteroid is injected into a joint to help reduce inflammation and therefore reduce pain.  Steroid Injection Therapy can be used to treat a range of injuries such as;

  • Plantarfasciitis
  • Tendon Injuries
  • Joint Arthritis
  • Mortons Neuromas

Hyaluronic Injection is used for arthritic joints and works by helping to restore lubrication within joints which have become stiff and less mobile.  Osteoarthritic joints for example become stiff, swollen and painful when the synovial fluid within the joint stops working properly and therefore stops protecting the cartilage that lines the joints, thus the cartilage begins to wear away and the joint becomes damaged.  Hyaluronic acid helps mimic the natural substance found within a joint that acts as a lubricator to help the joint move and function properly.
