Are you frustrated with ongoing foot pain that is just refusing to shift? Do you have pain and stiffness over the top of the centre of the foot? Have you tried lots of different ways to get rid of this pain following suggestions from friends?

Are you confused as to what could have caused this pain or injury in the first instance? Has your GP prescribed you pain killers and the surgeon suggested surgery? Have you seen more than one health professional?

Probably the most common midfoot injury we see in clinic is extensor tendon strains with the second most common being midfoot arthritis.

Cuboid Syndrome is surprisingly common and relates often to an over pronated foot.  The peroneal tendon can become stiff and weak in an over pronated foot and result in a pull around the cuboid bone, causing it to rotate.  And because this bone is loosely attached to several other midfoot bones, one can develop strange unspecific pain radiating around the outer/lateral aspect of the midfoot.  Treatment is to mobilise this cuboid bone, something we have plenty experience of.

Arthritis is frustratingly common and can develop over the centre of the top of the foot.  Treatment we often find extremely useful is foot orthotics and/or injection therapy. Also, wear stiff shoes and avoid flat soled shoes!

Over time the accumulation of abnormal forces applied to the midfoot will result in bone changes, thus injury. Poor foot posture or an injury, tends to encourage one to hold the foot stiff in-order to “protect” the foot, however, in doing so the tendons which are over-working (in an attempt to protect the foot) become strained, thus causing pain over the midfoot.

For diagnosis of your midfoot strain book a Foot and Ankle Assessment with us!
