A gait analysis will help determine how your body is misaligned and may be causing unnecessary pressure or stress on particular joints or muscles. This can result in pain or discomfort that can affect the performance of any athlete.

Our clinicians will work with you to understand your medical history and the nature of your condition, before talking you through the results and designing custom foot orthotics to help relieve your pain.

Gait Analysis for Walking

Similar to a gait analysis for running, we help you understand the cause of any pains, injuries or discomfort when walking, whether that be day to day walking, or longer distance walking and hiking.

Custom Orthotics for Sports

Custom orthotics work to help improve your gait and overall balance of your body, which may have been contributing to pain in your feet, ankles, knees, hips or upper body.

How a gait analysis and custom foot orthotics can help relieve your pain

Every sport will put extreme pressures on certain joints or muscles, whether that’s sudden impact pressures or a consquence of repetitive actions over a long period of time.

While that’s perfectly normal and you train to strengthen your body to tolerate these pressures, if your body is even slightly misaligned, it can create unique and potentially problematic additional stresses throughout your body.

If you’re experiencing any pain or discomfort when playing sports (or at any time), then it’s possible the issue stems from misalignment. Even a minor pain or discomfort can effect your performance and wellbeing.

A gait analysis will help us determine if your body is misaligned and our clinicians will be able to advise on a treatment. Our clinic is staffed with a number of specialists, so we will be able to advise on the most effective treatment for you.

Custom orthotic insoles are a simple and effective treatment to pain caused by misalignment. The insoles will be designed specifically for you (off the shelf solutions tend to be less effective for athletes) and are simply inserted into your shoes, trainers or boots, in place of the existing insole.

This minor change will help adjust your alignment and reduce the extreme pressures that your misalignment could be placing on your feet, ankles, knees, hips or upper body.

What is a gait analysis?

Information can be collected throughout the gait analysis which collectively should be able to conclude which the areas of their body that are taking more load, and therefore either at risk of injury, overloaded and causing pain, or already injured as a result of these abnormal forces.

By the time the gait analysis appointment is complete the patient should understand how they walk or run, the effect this has on the joints of the body and how to improve this.

The gait analysis leads to the prescription / treatment plan and this could include all or some of the following; KCR to stretch and realign and straighten the body, foot mobilisation, foot orthotics, or small changes to your walking habits such as shorter step length, increased arm swing.

Our Gait Analysis includes a static stance assessment, non weight bearing assessment of how the small joints of the feet work, and the detailed gait analysis.
