How our sports physiotherapists can help treat walking & hiking injuries

Arthritic joints can be of systemic nature or wear and tear after years of abnormal loading on the joint due to poor posture or alignment.

When the foot, knee or hip (or all the due to the fact the joints are connected), are sitting in the wrong position it will create an increase in compressive forces on one side of the joint and therefore grind the joint down over time. There will also be an imbalance in the muscle activity surrounding that joint and therefore an increased risk in injury to the surrounding ligaments and joints.

Physiotherapy intervention is important here as working on strengthening and stretching around the joints can realign, alter position and reduce the abnormal forces. The physiotherapist will also work on main management techniques.

A similar pattern of abnormal forces is likely the contributing factor to other common walking injuries such as fractures, knee pain, back pain, sciatica, tibialis anterior strain and overuse and so much more – we work to understand the injury and reduce the abnormal pressures. It is also important for the patient to understand their injury and feel empowered to take control of their recovery.

No matter your injury or condition, our team can help diagnose and treat it. Contact us to book an appointment.
