Foot orthotics are shoe inserts that are engineered to eliminate discomfort as well as making standing, walking, and running more comfortable and efficient. They are designed to control foot functions by treating walking imbalances (biomechanical conditions).
An ‘orthotic’ is a device designed to restore your natural foot function. Many ‘biomechanical’ (walking) complaints such as heel pain, arch pain, shin pain, achilles pain, flat feet, knee pain and lower back pain are caused by poor foot function. Foot Orthotics re-align the foot and ankle bones to their neutral position, thereby restoring natural foot function. In turn this helps alleviate problems in other parts of the body.
Our team for Foot Orthotics maintains a training regime that ensures they are up to date with the latest technologies and rehabilitation thinking. This means that each patient can be provided with appropriate treatments, optimised designs and lightweight materials. We have access to gait analysis systems in many of our clinics which measures the effectiveness of chosen devices and treatments regimes.
We believe in a holistic approach to any biomechanical problem, we understand that the underlying problem may not always be located around the area of the body that develops the symptoms. In some cases the problem may lie in a number of areas, such as poor posture, pelvic mal alignment, leg length discrepancies, tight or poorly toned muscles. We can use Foot Orthotics to improve posture and accommodate for any limb length discrepancy. If we do not feel that your problem is caused primarily by your foot position or poor biomechanics, we will not prescribe you any Foot Orthotics.
