Midfoot Pain

Suffering heel pain during lockdown?

During these challenging times we have all developed different coping strategies and new healthier ways to fill our time throughout lockdown. With the time to reflect on our health and wellbeing there has been a noticeable rise in exercise of all varieties. In many ways is wonderful news however exercise should build slowly and with our gait in mind. The new burst of exercise has resulted in people noticing pains or injuries occurring or flaring back up, effectively creating a rise in new patients here at the clinic.

The injury which many new patients are presenting to the clinic with is heel pain. But why are more people suffering heel pain?

Heel pain is common, here’s why…

Patients are coming to our clinic looking for information and guidance on subjects such as pain, pain management, rehabilitation and general queries like are they doing it right?”

Patients who are exercising more frequently or who have just recently started back exercising have been noticing pain from new or pre-existing injuries.  With walking and running being the apparent exercise of choice for most of us at the moment the foot is subjected to increased stresses.  If the foot posture is poor then there may be an increase in the abnormal stress applied on the under surface of the heel. With increased load, from walking or running, the heel tissue can eventually breakdown (strain), resulting in injury and pain.

What can we do?

At the Clinic we offer patients a variety of services such as our biomechanical assessment’s, either foot and ankle or a full gait analysis. The biomechanics assessment is a fantastic option for new patients who are looking to have a comprehensive overview.

We also offer treatments such as:

  • carbon fibre foot orthotics
  • foot mobilisation treatments
  • shockwave therapy and more…
  • there are simple steps that may resolve your heel pain, to request this information see below!
